Wood is a natural product and is therefore subject to the effects of the environment. Grain can dry out and colour can slightly vary over time. Splits and cracks may develop and this is part of the natural wood ageing process – it is not a flaw and will not damage your piece of furniture.
While it usually takes a day for the final coat of finish to completely dry out, the surface needs to be cured to be fully protected. Most of our furniture is made to order, so we recommend that extra care is taken in the first three weeks of receiving your furniture. This includes, in the case of a table, using a table cloth or old sheet to protect from potential spills during usage, then removing the cover at all other times to expose the surface to air to assist with the curing process.
To preserve your wooden furniture as best as possible:
Timber normally dries out with time and re-finishing of the surface might be required. The speed at which this happens depends on the conditions of the surrounding environment and how well a piece of furniture is maintained.
We use OSMO® in all our products, an oil/wax wood finish made from natural products that helps protect the wood while enhancing the timber’s natural beauty. We therefore recommend using OSMO® products for regular maintenance. OSMO® maintenance kits are available for purchase here. Please follow the product instructions for application.
Remove any dust or dirt using a clean damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive products.
Avoid direct contact with sunlight as this can change the colour of the piece and wipe dry any spills straight away.
